Fase de Grupos, Jornada 1 - CSB Stars x FC Maroon
Match 2 saw FC Maroon take on CSB Stars. FC Maroon were the sister squad of FC Dad but were making their debut. They had seen their stable-mates win their opening game – could they match that feat?
They played well in the opening period but a win was looking tough as they trailed 2-1 at the break. Hertej Rattan scored his team’s first goal in eurofootballfives.com competition for FC Maroon. Goncalo Ferreira scored both the goals for CSB Stars. After the break we had a repeat score in the second half leading to a 4-2 final score. James Alawi bagged his first goal of the day with Jose Pedro Duarte and Tiago
Botelho netting for the Portuguese.
Fase de Grupos, Jornada 2- CSB Stars x Groundforce
CSB Stars went into Round 2 looking to build on opening game victory and open up a lead at the top of Group B. Their opponents were Groundforce Lisboa who suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat in Round 1 and would look to bounce back from this. Sadly for Groundforce Lisboa the same fate and same scoreline was to be repeated. They were 3-1 down at the break as Helmer Moses, Tiago Botelho and Goncalo Ferreira gave CSB Stars a firm advantage. Tiago Correira’s goal for Groundforce Lisboa kept them in the hunt.
After the break Paulo Rogurges glanced in a superb header to make it 3-2 but time was not on their side and CSB Stars held on for a 3-2 win. It was two wins out of two for CSB Stars, two defeats out of two for Groundforce Lisboa.
Fase de Grupos, Jornada 3- CSB Stars x HS Decor
CSB Stars and HS Décor then met in the first top of the table clash in Group B. Both teams had two wins, 6 points and a 100% record. HS Décor sat in 2nd and CSB Stars in 3rd separated only by 1 goal of goal difference. It looked like two teams from 3 for Cup qualification from Group B and this result may well prove crucial in deciding these two teams fates. It was the proverbial game of two halves as CSB Stars took the first half 1-0 thanks to Goncalo Ferreira. HS Décor fought back in the 2nd half with an equalizer from Marco Coelho and things got even better for HS Décor when Rui Pina put them ahead. HS Décor held on for the 2-1 win that saw them go top on 9 points.
Fase de Grupos, Jornada 4- CSB Stars x FC Dynamoes
The final game of Round 4 was FC Dynamoes versus CSB Stars. The two teams had been left behind a little by HS Décor’s surge to 12 points. These two teams were on 7 points and were in direct competition for the second Cup qualification place. This was arguably the biggest game of Group B to date. It was a fiercely contested affair with both teams realizing the importance of the game. FC Dynamoes were having the better of it but half-time came and went with the game still 0-0. FC Dynamoes continued to create chances but couldn’t put them away and in the end the game finished 0-0. The result didn’t do much for either team and left them in limbo really. It would all go down to the final round of fixtures.
Fase de Grupos, Jornada 5- CSB Stars x Ace & The Swagmen
Before that though we had the matter of ACE & The Swagmen versus CSB Stars. CSB Stars knew that a win would guarantee Cup qualification and a draw may be enough subject to FC Maroon’s result. A defeat would mean they were out as they would finish below FC Dynamoes.
ACE &The Swagmen were playing for pride (and the hopes of FC Maroon and FC Dynamoes). It was always going to be a big ask for The Swagmen and so it proved as CSB Stars opened up a 3-1 lead at half-time that became 5-2 by full-time. CSB Stars had ensured Cup qualification so well done to them.
Meia-final- CSB Stars x Funsport A
As the 2013 Lisbon Tournament Cup Semi-Finals were about to get underway we were down to the elite 4 teams in the tournament. It was a fine tournament for the local Lisbon teams with all Semi-Finalist’s coming from Portugal. This was only the second time in 47 tournaments we’d had all Semi-Finalists come from the same country (the other being Barcelona Fives 2012 with 4 Spanish teams).
On Pitch A we had Group A winners, Funsport A, against the Group B Runners-Up, CSB Stars. Funsport A were the favourites and unbeaten for the day with 4 wins and 1 draw. The game was certainly going in their favour during the first half as they led 3-1 by the break.
The second half saw a great recovery from CSB Stars as Goncalo Ferreira (6 goals for the tournament) and Tiago Botelho (5 goals for the tournament) brought them back level at 3-3. That’s how it finished. We were into Golden Goal extra time but neither team could find that decisive moment and we would have a penalty shoot-out to decide the first Cup Semi-Final.
The first two rounds of penalties were exemplary and we were level at 2-2. The third penalty for Funsport A was put into orbit and CSB Stars had one kick to win it. They did and the winner sparked wild celebrations.
Final- CSB Stars x HS Decor
Twelve teams came to do battle at the 2013 Lisbon Tournament in the open age category, two remained – CSB Stars and HS Decor. The only thing we knew at this stage was the fact it would be a Portuguese winner and a Portuguese clean sweep of all titles as the Plate and Veterans titles’ had already been claimed.
Would it be HS Décor or CSB Stars lifting the winners’ trophy aloft? Both teams had played in Group B earlier in the day and on that occasion HS Décor won 2-1 having been a goal behind. We were hoping for an equally gripping and close encounter for the Cup Final.
The first half belonged to HS Decor as they struck first in this one and led 2-0 at the break. They were firmly in control and well on course for their 7th consecutive win that would make them worthy winners of the title. Could CSB Stars come back and create an upset? In short – no. HS Décor played out the remainder of the second half with little alarm and looked more likely to extend their lead as they soaked up the pressure and tried to hit their opponents on the break. Final score, 2-0.
Parabéns Capitães!
